"The [URBAN EARTH] Guadalajara excercise was concieved as key for the extended dialogue over the state and the future of our city. Tens of citizens of all ages and from different backgrounds participated. From children (9, the youngest, who did it all) to older adults (3 beyond 70), students, academics, professionals, ordinary people who read about it in the newspaper, were all seduced by the idea to get to know the city they live in. I don't know if we ever counted us considering those who joined or abandoned the walk in every stage. My estimate is that most of the time we were between 40 and 60. Maybe around 100 persons tasted the experience! (One or two urban planning authorities joined 'for a bit' as well).
Great ideas came out from the participants. For example, to repeat the exercise perhaps every season, changing routes, or to do smaller ones following a topic, or through a particular area or 'barrio' of the city. A participant suggested we all write a small 100 word piece on what this experience meant, and personal reflections. So hopefully we put together plenty of material in the next few days.." The walk attracted positive attention from both local and national media. If you can read Spanish take a look at 1 / 2 / 3 / 4. The URBAN EARTH: GUADALAJARA film is currently being edited, but to give you a feel for the walk take a look at the images taken by Image by Étienne at the end of this page.
